Annanagar Mar Thoma Church appeals to President Patil and Chief Minister Patnaik
Annanagar Jerusalem Mar Thoma Church, Chennai, sent a mass petition to President Pratibha Patil and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday September 7, 2008 expressing concern over the continued persecution of minorities in Orissa. Church offered special prayers for the persecuted as well as the persecutors during the Qurbana. Rev. Joseph Chacko, the vicar, exhorted the congregation on the need of constant vigil to safeguard the God given freedom and the need to exercise that freedom responsibly. Mar Thoma Church has mission centres in Orissa. The Church members though were safe in the recent outbursts of violence there, are living in constant fear. The church provides education and hostel facilities to the tribal children to continue their studies.

It is disheartening why humans fight against humans. It is sad why religions divide and don't unite. In the midst of confusion and anguish, perhaps churches that come together and pray and think about the victims and their well being are the only glimmer of hope.
